Sambal..

Well this is a must go place for some authentic Malaysian food in Sydney. I had my best char kuey teow there! Anyway I was introduced to this little jewel hidden at Macquarie Park, called Sambal. It's also one of the restaurants listed in the Good Food Guide 2011. They also have some specials during lunch hours. Since it's at the business park, they tend to get really busy and packed during lunch hours. So I've avoided that and went during weekend. It was so good that I had to bring my sis who came over to visit.


For the first attempt, I went there with Jen on a Sunday lunch. The specials during that time was Mee Rebus. It's boiled egg noodles with sweet creamy curry sauce with fried tofu, boiled egg and bean sprouts. 

We've also ordered the char kuey teow (spicy). It had blown me away, the taste was totally awesome, very similar to the ones we have in Malaysia. Although it didn't have all the same elements like the little clams and chinese sausages, it was still really yummylicious and strong authentic flavour! The best char kuey teow I had so far in Aussie.

Time for some desserts. We tried the ice chendol. Yum! The strong flavour of palm sugar and the coconut milk, heavenly good. The chendol was nice as well.

The sago pudding with coconut milk and palm sugar. Jen absolutely love this alot. It's just so authentic. 

For the second attempt, we went for dinner. We've purposely ordered the chicken rice instead of the normal white rice. It was fragrant and moist. Yum!

Kangkung belachan. It's water spinach cooked with prawn paste. Spicy and totally mouthwatering. It was really appetizing and went well with rice.

Stir fried seafood with tofu. I loved it so much. One of my favourites in Malaysia. It tasted really authentic, the tofu was awesome! It was so soft and fragrant.

We've also tried the signature Sambal prawns, king prawns cooked with salty eggs, eggplant and chilli. The prawns were cooked perfectly and it was tantalizingly delicious. Love the strong flavours!

Of course we wouldn't missed out on desserts as well. We had the ice chendol, sago pudding and also the ice kacang. Sweet, cold and full of ingredients. I had a great time enjoying all the food there and will be back for more when I have my cravings.

Was getting excited about this new lunch find until I saw that it's across the bridge - a weekend daytrip I think - but good to know it's good authentic Malaysian!

Hey Forager, it's definately worth the visit and try the char kuey teow. Be sure to avoid the peak times and prepare some soft drinks and chips for the daytrip. :P
